Peer Leader Hiring Promotions

Would you like to become more involved in your Living-Learning Community?  Would you like to give back and support fellow students?  The hiring process for Peer Leaders is now open and I hope you will consider applying! What is a Peer Leader?

Peer Leaders are upper-year students who share their experience with first-year students and act as a link to resources and people on campus.  Peer Leaders also organize programs that enhance students’ in-class learning and further develop skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, and critical thinking.

We are looking for students to become Peer Leaders for the Accounting and Finance Living Learning Communities in the Winter 2014 term.  Anyone in the following programs can apply:

o   Accounting and Financial Management

o   Computing and Financial Management

o   Biotechnology/Chartered Accountancy

o   Mathematics/Chartered Accountancy

We’re looking for upper-year students who have:

  • excellent communication skills
  • proven leadership ability
  • good academic standing
  • the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • good judgment
  • a sincere desire to help first-year students
  • familiarity with their faculty, campus resources, and academic opportunities

Capital IQ Information Session

A Capital IQ Information Session will be held on Monday, 7 October 2013 from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm in HH 2104 for all SAF students. The session will focus on the use of Capital IQ (including the Excel plug-in) and basic data extraction and analysis. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain hands on training from a Capital IQ representative. See you there!

Bloomberg Information Session

Bloomberg Information Session will be happening on September 26,2013 at 5:30pm - 6:30pm in HH1102 for all SAF students. The session will focus on the use of Bloomberg terminal, and basic data extraction methods to aid students in financial modelling.  Don’t miss the opportunity to gain hands on Bloomberg training from a Bloomberg professional. Be sure to come out for an event catered towards helping students to gain valuable research skills to assist and differentiate them as they make their way into their respective finance careers. Updated Times for SAF Academic Skills Coaching Sessions

There has been a change in the times for the SAF Academic Skills Coaching sessions to accommodate everyone's timetables. The new and updated session times are:

Monday, September 16th from 11:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. in PAS 1241

Wednesday, September 18th from 8:30 -9:50 a.m. in HH 2104

Wednesday, September 18th from 10:00 - 11:20 a.m. in HH 2104

Friday, September 20th from 1:00 - 2:20 p.m. in HH 2107

Upper year students are involved in the preparation and facilitation of the sessions.  They will be speaking from their experience of what worked for them and what they would do differently.

Call for Applications for the Student Investment Team for the Fall 2013 Term

*This is a reminder email about the opportunity to apply for the SAF Student Investment Team.  We have added an online application component to do a trial on streamlining the process.  The application can now be found on the LEARN site under "My SAF Community" look under Assessments to the Survey function and the application document is called "Student Investment Team Application 2013".  We would like you to complete this as well as sending in your documents so that we are sure to have the information that we need to process your application.  The School’s Investment Fund was launched in the spring 2012 term with an initial investment of $50,000. An additional $50,000 was available for investment in the winter 2013 term. To know more about the fund, please visit http://saf.uwaterloo.ca/SAF/SAFInvestmentFund.html. The performance link at the site has the team presentations to the Investment Fund’s Advisory Board.

We invite applications for the Student Investment Team from students in their 3A or higher study terms in the fall 2013 term in the AFM, CFM, Mathematics & CA, and Biotechnology & CA programs. To be eligible to apply, students should have completed Managerial Finance I (AFM 271/AFM 273) or Corporate Finance I (AFM 272).
