Position you are running for: AFEF Board of Directors
How do you feel AFEF can benefit from you on the BoD?
Throughout the past two years, I have had the opportunity to present to the AFEF BoD on behalf of both AFSA education and the University of Waterloo Accounting Conference, two initiatives that AFEF has provided funding to in the past. Through this experience, I have seen the direct impact that AFEF funding has had on the success of both initiatives respectively. Therefore, I understand the importance of the decisions made by AFEF, and if elected onto the BoD would give careful thought and deliberation to every single allocation. In addition, I have also been on the sponsorship committee for UWAC for the past two years. In this capacity I have learned how to manage a budget and allocate funds. Finally, as a member of both UWAC and AFSA I have developed strong teamwork skills which I could apply to working within the team of BoD for AFEF. Overall, I believe that my experience with AFEF and on the UWAC sponsorship team team would allow me to make a positive contribution to the AFEF BoD.
What current or future initiatives would you prioritize AFEF funding for?
I would prioritize funding for initiatives that have the widest reach to students of the School of Accounting and Finance, with the greatest need for financial support. I understand that the purpose of the Accounting and Finance Endowment Fund is to enhance the experience of SAF students by providing funding to initiatives that will in turn benefit the students who take part in them. I would judge each initiative’s reach based on both their presentation to the BoD, and my own research. The other criteria I would consider when allocating AFEF funding is the impact the funding would have for the initiative. For example, if a club was pitching and their projected budget clearly showed that they would be able to survive without AFEF funding, even if their club was entirely aimed at SAF students, I would prioritize funding an initiative whose SAF reach was slightly less, but who needed the support more. I believe that this is the most effective way to allocate the AFEF’s resources.

AFEF has the power to enhance the experience of students of the School of Accounting and Finance. This is not a position to be taken lightly, and if elected onto the AFEF BoD I intend to leverage my experience as a member of the UWAC sponsorship team to make smart and efficient decisions of how to allocate the AFEF funding to benefit all SAF students. My focus would be on supporting initiatives, both current and future, that provide School of Accounting and Finance students with unique and useful opportunities. I believe that the AFEF BoD is truly in a position not only to help SAF students pursue initiatives and develop skills, but also to improve the reputation and draw of SAF as a whole, through the promotion and execution of these same initiatives.
